FAQ
What is Nigh?
Nigh is a free daily trivia game. Each round sets a limit, like a country with fewer than 20 million people, and you name something as close to it as you dare without going over. The closer you get, the higher Gumnut the koala climbs.
When does a new climb come out?
At midnight in your own time zone. Everyone plays the same five rounds on the same date.
What's the best possible total?
50: rung 10 in all five rounds. Rung 10 means you named something right up against the limit.
What's the Golden Leaf?
Each round has one closest answer: the item on the list that sits nearest the limit without going over. Name it and Gumnut finds the Golden Leaf, which is rung 10 and a leaf on your share.
What happens if I go over?
On your first step, nothing much: Gumnut bonks its head and you use up a step. Once you're on the ladder, going over makes Gumnut fall to half the rung you were on, and the round ends.
What does the Hammock do?
Once a day, you can hang the Hammock before a Reach. If that Reach goes over, Gumnut lands in it and you keep your rung. If it doesn't go over, the Hammock stays hung for your next Reach.
Should I Rest or Reach?
That's the game. Resting locks in your rung. Reaching can take you higher, but the top rungs are squeezed close together, and going over costs you half.
Why didn't my answer count?
Every round uses a fixed list, such as the 193 UN member states or every Best Picture winner, so an answer outside the list (a city in a country round, say) won't be on it. That never costs you a step. Small typos are forgiven, and if a name could mean two things we ask which.
Where do the numbers come from?
Every value is checked against two reputable sources, which are shown at the end of each round. If you think a number is wrong, tap "Think a number is wrong?" and we'll check it against the sources.
Is there a timer?
No. Take as long as you like. The risk is in how far you push, not how fast you type.
How do streaks work?
Your streak counts every day you finish a climb, today's or one from the archive. A past day counts for the day you play it, so it can't fill in a day you missed. One missed day is forgiven per streak, and every 7 days of a streak banks a freeze (up to 2) that covers another.
Can I play past days?
Yes. Every past day is in the archive, free, and you can replay any finished day just for fun.
Where are my stats stored?
On your device, in your browser. Clearing site data resets them.
Is Nigh free?
Yes, with no ads and nothing to install. You can add it to your home screen from your browser's menu.
